Shot from Tess' first workshop on Septmber 1. In the pre workshop talk we spoke of the challenges that photographing people as against nature poses. Many of the photograpers attending my workshops have been inexperienced with photograhing people and find that they tense up and rush with this genre. I likened it to being lost in your car and being fine until the moment someone appears on your bumper bar. However whenever pressure presents itself we are best staying composed. Also when models feel that the photographer is tense it is harder for them to relax in front of the camera. So in my own photography and in my teaching I try to be aware of the pressure that relationship with other people can bring. From this awareness to then re compose myself and create connections like this one where the model is 100% free and relaxed.
