For those of you who have followed me on Deviant you may know that I have for many years explored the potential control I have over my own body. Every now and then I post self portraits and reflections about the shots. This one was taken 2 days before my 50th birthday. Whilst there are many 50 year olds with more defined bodies than mine this particular shot is one that I am very proud of.
I have never been an elite genetic and through much of my life have carried far less tone than I have been satisfied with. However for about the last 10 or so years I have experimented with the concept of using my mind to firstly accept and then improve the things I am not physically happy with about myself. Whilst I have continually improved my diet and varied my exercise programme I feel that by far the biggest improvements with my physique have occured through developing a more accepting and open minded way of thinking.
For most of my life I have felt a great need to prove myself and an equally great fear of being rejected or judged as less. Whilst I still have a way to go I am far more self accepting and less compeditive than at any other time in my life. I am also finding that the less stressed I am about life that the healthier and more aesthetically pleasing my body is becoming. Further the more I am improving physicaly the more confidence I am getting that my attitude can improve all areas of my life.
In general I am trying to put no limits on what is possible in my life. To open my heart and mind to more clearly realise what it is I most desire. Like most of us my upbringing was very powerful in directing me towards what I thought I needed and also what was possible. I think this is very flawed as much of what I initially desired in life was not necessarily what I really valued. Also much of what I genuinely valued was often degraded by others close to me or promoted as inaccessible.
So these days I am more than ever reaching out for what I desire and doing all I can to make my desires a reality. A healthy and aesthetically pleasing appearance is one desire that is important to me. Becoming more secure, humble and warm is also something of great importance and passion for me. I believe that when all aspects of the self are in balance we can achieve unlimited fulfillment in life.
